Dr. Tia Wheatley is an Assistant Adjunct Professor for the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at the UCLA School of Nursing. She has over a decade of oncology nursing experience, and has worked as an advanced practice nurse, both as a clinical nurse specialist and nurse practitioner for nearly 8 years. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Louisville, working as an oncology staff nurse in her home state of Kentucky, where she was awarded the Daisy award in 2016. After earning her DNP at the University of Kentucky, with a specialty in Hematology/Oncology and Stem Cell Transplant, she relocated to Los Angeles, where she has worked as an advanced practice nurse at City of Hope National Medical Center and the UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center in Hematology/Oncology & Cell Therapy. In 2023, she completed an Acute Care Post-Masters Nurse Practitioner Certificate at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Wheatley has served as the associate editor for the Quality and Safety department in the Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing (CJON; 2022-2025). She holds national certifications in Evidence-based Practice and Bone Marrow Transplant Nursing, and has been an author for several book chapters and publications for oncology nursing. She has presented several poster and podium presentations for a variety of EBP/QI initiatives at national conferences. In 2019, she was named AOCNS-BMTCN of the year by the GLAONS chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society.
